Carving the neck, final stages -using the ‘shoe shine technique’

Fingerboard with a slight fan.

Prepared and glued on the fingerboard last night. .5 inch fan on Oscar’s guitar. The neck as you can see remains uncarved at this stage, and there is an assortment of making tape still un-peeled here and there. The soundboard is also smeared with various gunk in this photo. It will need a good re-sanding before I continue with applying lacquer.

Pore filling and dye.

This stage, has been a bewildering whirlwind of taping. Carly putting tape on, then pulling tape off!  A fair bit more work than I had anticipated, and have been keeping my fingers crossed…. Always asking myself: odds this the best order of operations?  Will I have to redo something of I do it on the wrong order? Moving slowly and cautiously today!

Newfangled tape

Now I’m taping off the areas that I do not want dyed black; so as to shellac them to prevent the dye from penetrating. Note the black line I’m following with the tape. It is 0.5mm wide, giving me a small margin for taping discrepancies/leeway!
